Shillong, Apr 24: Lamare SC edged Youngstar FC 1-0 in extra time to win the 1st Shortimai Knockout Football Tournament in Smit yesterday.

The tournament was organised by the Seng Samla Smit Pyllun and Smit SC.

Both sides were equally matched, with perhaps an edge in terms of scoring chances to Lamare.

In the end it was an own goal off a free-kick by Brolington Warlarpih that put Lamare in front in the second session of extra time in front of a huge crowd that packed the stadium and the surrounding vantage points.

Lamare earned Rs 2 lakh as champions and Youngstar Rs 1 lakh as runners-up, the tournament’s Organising Secretary Syntem Kamwamut Nengnong informed.

At the prize distribution ceremony, Siwel Rymbai from Lamare was named Best Goalkeeper, Wallamsuk Nongkhlaw of Paraladei Smit top scorer, Nickelson Bina of Lamare Player-of-the-Tournament, Nangkiew FC Umiew Best Disciplined Team and Man-of-the-Match Habymmut Nongrum of Youngstar FC.

The chief guest on the occasion was Sports & Youth Affairs Minister Banteidor Lyngdoh while Nongkrem MLA Lambor Malngiang was the guest of honour.

The tournament committee also expressed its thanks to all the fans who made the tournament a complete success.
