Shillong, Jul 26: Dadapbiang Lyngdoh from Upper Lumparing took first place in the Speed and Bouldering climbing event at the North East Zonal Sport Climbing Competition 2022 in Guwahati recently.
Lyngdoh was competing in the sub-junior girls’ category. Several other Meghalaya climbers secured podium or at least top 10 positions at the event, which was organised by the IMF North East Zone Committee.
The competition ran from 22nd to 24th July and there were 98 participants from around the North East, the Meghalaya Sport Climbing and Mountaineering Association informed today.
“Our climbers performed very well despite a lack of infrastructure of our own,” MeSCMA President Malviancy Shabong said in a release. “The association needs support from the government to set up a world-class climbing wall of international standard so that we can prepare and produce world-class climbers from the state who can excel in national and international competitions.”
The MeSCMA climbers trained prior to the event at the Assam Regimental Centre’s artificial climbing wall in Happy Valley.
Shabong also expressed gratitude to the Meghalaya State Olympic Association and Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs for their support and financial assistance.
