Shillong, Oct 3: Meghalaya recorded a fantastic 4-0 start to their U-17 boys’ Subroto Cup campaign against Madhya Pradesh in New Delhi today.

Meghalaya is being represented by St Anthony’s Higher Secondary School at the tournament.

The other two sides in Pool H are a Sainik School team and Goa.

Today, Blanangshngain Khongsdam produced a brace, scoring in the 30th and 50th minutes, while Dao-o-hi-paia Rymbai (48′) and captain Rimankhraw Kharumnuid (62′) contributed a goal apiece.

The Meghalaya boys will play their second match tomorrow against Sainik School.

Both the Meghalaya U-14 boys’ and U-17 girls’ teams had reached the quarterfinal stage before being knocked out. The Subroto Cup has returned in 2022 after two years out because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Meghalaya are the defending champions of the U-17 category, having won (through H Elias Memorial Higher Secondary School) the title in 2019.
