Shillong, Jun 20: Reigning champions Mawlai SC got their title defence off to a terrific start in the Shillong Sports Association’s Women’s League by defeating Iasnohktilang Madanrting FC 5-0 at the MFA Turf at Third Ground, Polo, here today.
The earlier match, also in Group B, saw Lumparing SC ease to a 7-0 victory over Kharang SC.
C Khongwet (26′, 50′), I Marbaniang (34′, 37′, 41′, 67′) and B Synrem (70′) scored for Lumparing, who are aiming to put on a strong performance this season; last year they narrowly missed out on a semifinal spot by finishing third in their group.
Expectations were high of the well-drilled Mawlai and they came out with four goals in the first half by C Nongtdu (10′), M Nongrum (13′), W Marwein (23′) and M Songthiang (29′) before F Sympli (58′) added another in the second half.
Tomorrow will see Kick Start Academy go up against Lawei Smit SC in Group A at 2:30PM, followed by Synroplang 77 versus Maw U-Tieng SC in Group B at 4:15PM.
