Shillong, Sep 11: South Garo Hills District Cricket Association and Shillong Cricket Association won their respective matches in the Meghalaya Cricket Association’s U-19 Girls Inter District Cricket Tournament today by convincing margins.
Jayshree Singh (105 not out) struck a peerless century as SCA defeated West Jaintia Hills DCA by 149 runs at Umbuda in Ri-Bhoi in Zone 1’s Group B, while SGH were 8-wicket winners against hosts North Garo Hills DCA at Salpara in Zone 2.
Without Jayshree (pictured), SCA would have been restricted to a much more gettable score as the next highest contribution was 14 but her unbeaten ton, which came off 123 balls, proved to be a gamechanger.
Coming in at Number 3 after SCA won the toss and chose to bat first, she hit 17 fours as Shillong CA made 227/5 in their allotted 29 overs at a run rate of 7.83. Sawakahi Syngkon (2/44) was the most successful bowler for WJH, while Yoolang Suting (1/39) and Doliza Lyngdoh (1/49) also picked up a wicket each.
In the chase, WJH were never allowed to settle as they were dismissed for 78 in 23.3 overs. Mercia Able Dhar top-scored with 11 but the bowlers’ figures were far more impressive – Natasha Rabha bagged 4/20, Monica Singh 3/7 and Jennyfer Fancon 2/17.
The other match saw NGH bat first on winning the toss but they were rumbled for just 66 in 25.2 overs with no batter getting into double figures. All seven SGH bowlers were among the wickets, chief among them Dianchidora N Sangma (2/5) and Rikmanchi M Sangma (2/7).
SGH were eased to victory in 13.5 overs thanks to plenty of extras. Jaylynn R Marak (11 not out) and Janicka R Marak (11) contributed the most runs with the bat, while NGH’s Jessica Marak (1/14) and Chigame Marak (1/18) were the bowlers to take wickets.
Tomorrow will witness the final round of group games. In Zone 1’s Group A, East Khasi Hills CA will face Ri-Bhoi DCA and in Zone 2 SGH will be back in action against East Garo Hills DCA.
