Shillong, Oct 8: Meghalaya were handed a 3-1 defeat by Uttar Pradesh in their Group B match of the Junior Girls’ National Football Championship (Tier 2) in Jaipur today.

This put an end to Meghalaya’s impressive run of three consecutive wins in what was their last group match.

UP and Meghalaya have 9 points each at the moment.

However, UP now have head-to-head and goal difference (+20 to +18) advantage over Meghalaya and a game in hand; they will meet Telangana in their final group game on Tuesday in a match that they should win.

Only one team from each of the four groups will progress to the semifinals.

Today, after a goalless first half, UP went ahead via Rukmani in the 63rd minute and doubled the lead thanks to the same player in the 74th.

Eightfulnes Shangdiar (83′) pulled a goal back for Meghalaya to make the score read 2-1 but in next to no time UP had restored their two-goal margin with a strike by Sarita and that’s how they won the match.
