Shillong, Jan 24: Phrangki Buam, a midfielder playing for Shillong Lajong FC, will be conferred with the Kiang Nangbah Award for sports at this year’s Republic Day celebration.
The 23-year-old was born in Thangbuli in Jaintia Hills and is one of that village’s most accomplished residents.
He started at the Sports Authority of India before being taken on by the erstwhile Royal Wahingdoh FC. He then switched over to Shillong Lajong FC, where the bulk of his professional career has been.
Phrangki rejoined Lajong for the 2023-24 I-League but has not featured all that much because of an injury.
Prior to returning to his home state, he most recently played for Real Kashmir FC, also in the I-League, and had also had a stint with Mohammedan Sporting in 2021-22 on loan from FC Goa.
He left Lajong for Goa after the 2018-19 season but never featured for them in the Indian Super League, though he was used by them in the Asian Champions League.
The attacking midfielder has won numerous titles with Lajong, like the 2019 Shillong Premier League and Meghalaya State League and 2017-18 AIFF Elite League.
