Shillong, Feb 10: Shillong Soccer Scouts defeated Merinda FC 2-1 to win the final of the Shillong Sports Association’s U-16 Boys Football League 2023 at First Ground, Polo, here today.
SSS scored through Newbirthson Syngkli (33′) and Prosperwell Ryntong (48′) on either side of a goal by Merinda’s Mebankitlang Mawlong (37′).
As champions, SSS were awarded a cheque of Rs 15,000 plus trophy. Merinda took home Rs 7,500. Various senior SSA officials were present for the final, including President Eugeneson Lyngdoh.
The league began on 8th January with 13 teams divided into two groups.
Group A consisted of seven sides – Lah Bet FC (formerly Kickstart Football Coaching Centre), Lumshyiap SC, Mawreng SC, Upper Shillong Colts, Rangdajied United FC, Mawpat SC and Merinda FC.
Group B contained six teams – Umpling SC, Pay For Right Football Academy, Iatylli SC, Mawlai SC, Umphyrnai SC and Shillong Soccer Scouts.
The top two teams from each group progressed to the semifinals.
Merinda were second in Group A and SSS second in Group B but they won their semifinals against Umphyrnai SC and Mawreng SC respectively, each by 1-0 margins.
