Shillong, Oct 4: The Shooting Association of Meghalaya won 28 medals, comprising 6 gold, 12 silver and 10 bronze, at the recent 11th North East Zone Shooting Championship.
The 25th September to 1st October event was held in Dimapur and Meghalaya finished fourth out of six states in the medals tally.
SAM had sent a contingent of 53 shooters to take part, including three hearing-impaired shooters who won medals.
However, SAM said in a press release yesterday that temperatures of 40 degrees Celsius posed a challenge to the rifle shooters but the team’s pistol shooters rose to the occasion and compensated for the losses.
The most successful Meghalaya shooter was four-time medallist Shashank Shekhar, who won two gold (one team, one individual) and two silver (one team, one individual).
