Shillong, Aug 10: The Archery Association of Meghalaya will hold the Meghalaya State Archery Championship 2026 from Tuesday at the Sports Authority of India Centre on the NEHU campus here.
Hundreds of archers from the different districts of Meghalaya have arrived in Shillong for the championship, with practice held today ahead of the opening day.
Competition will take place across recurve, compound and Indian round events, both team and individual. The three-day championship will conclude on Thursday.
Meghalaya’s standing in archery has been growing in recent years and the state’s archers won two gold and a bronze at the 1st Khelo India Tribal Games in April this year. This state championship is also significant as it comes as the Archery Association of Meghalaya is undertaking dedicated efforts to be ready for the 39th National Games, which Meghalaya will host in 2027.
The opening ceremony will be held at 10:45AM on Tuesday. Secretary of the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, Isawanda Laloo, will be the chief guest.
