Shillong, Sep 20: Mawpat defeated Sohryngkham 2-0 in the final of the Shillong Sports Association’s Second Division 2026 at the SSA Stadium here yesterday.
Both teams had already secured promotion to next season’s First Division but yesterday they chased the ultimate glory of taking home the champions’ trophy.
Mawpat scored a goal in each half through Andyson Lapang (16′) and Reform Pale (68′) to seal victory – their eighth in eight matches in what was a perfect run.
Sohryngkham only made it out of the group stage by being one of the two best third-placed teams. However, they demonstrated that they truly belonged there after they beat Umlyngka (the top team from Group B) in the quarterfinals.
As champions Mawpat received a cheque of Rs 1 lakh, while Sohryngkham received Rs 50,000.
Individual awards were also presented at the closing ceremony to the Top Scorer Donboklang Lyngdoh, who scored 12 goals for Mawpat, and Player of the Final Reform Pale, also of Mawpat.
