Shillong, Oct 7: Nongkrem drew 2-2 with Nongthymmai in the last Group A match of the Shillong Sports Association’s First Division 2026 at the SSA Stadium here today.
Micky Warbah (24′) and Banganson Nongphlang (62′) scored for Nongkrem and Freestar Kharbyngar (34′) and Badonkupar Marbaniang (86′) for Nongthymmai.
Just 1 point separates the three teams at the top of the group but it will be Nongkrem and Malki progressing to the semifinals at the expense of Nongthymmai.
Malki and Nongthymmai have 7 points each but it is the former who have head-to-head advantage, which counts first in SSA tournaments when two teams are tied on points. (Malki had defeated Nongthymmai 3-2 on 21st September.)
That means that that is the end of the road for Nongthymmai this season. The bottom two teams – Laitkyrhong and Mawtawar – will still be involved in Relegation Zone round robin matches to come.
Tomorrow will see both of the remaining two Group B fixtures played.
Tomorrow’s fixtures:
Group B – Nongrim Hills vs Pohkseh, 12PM, SSA Stadium
Group B – Ryntih vs Mawkhar, 12PM, MFA Ground
