Shillong, Jul 29: Redeem Tlang has been signed by Indian Super League (ISL) franchise NorthEast United FC for the 2018-19 season, the team announced on its website yesterday.

The 23-year-old had played for the ISL franchise before, in the 2014-15 season, but only ever made one appearance for the Highlanders.

The winger has made 46 appearances for Shillong Lajong FC in the I-League, 26 as a starter and 20 as substitute. He made his I-League debut in the 2013-14 as a substitute against Churchill Brothers at home and got his first start five matches later against another Goan club, Salgaocar.

He’s scored three goals in the I-League, all in the last two seasons. In 2017-18 he scored in SLFC’s 2-0 win at home over Churchill and then against Aizawl FC away.

During his I-League career he has also been a feature in Lajong’s Shillong Premier League team as well and scored four goals last season as the Reds finished third.

NorthEast United finished at the bottom of the expanded ISL 2017-18, which was the second time in the four years of the competition that they’ve finished last.

Tlang is one of 11 domestic players to have been announced by NEUFC yesterday. Other North Easterners in the list include Kivi Zhimomi of Nagaland, Seityasen Singh of Manipur and Lalthathanga Khawlhring of Mizoram.
