Shillong, Dec 22: Langsning, Tynrongmawsaw, Niaw Wasa and Druma Sandruma all qualified for the semifinals of the inaugural Meghalaya State League after doing what they needed to do to qualify at the top of their respective groups on Friday.
In Bhoirymbong, Langsning played out a goalless draw with Rangdajied United in Group B and that allowed the former to go through on top on goal difference (+15 compared to +7). Shilliang Umdoh also defeated Pyndem Umbri 4-1 in a match that was for pride.
In Mairang, Tynrongmawsaw secured their place in the last-four by defeating the other challengers Mawten 1-0 via an own goal in the latter’s final group fixture. Tynrongmawsaw have a full nine points from three games and cannot be overtaken in Group C.
The same group saw Malki defeat Madan Bynther 2-1, but that was not enough for the Shillong-based club and they bow out of the competition.
Niaw Wasa, meanwhile, ran riot against Umlatkhur, winning 7-1 to secure 10 points from their four matches in Group A, while Umkiang beat Jalaphet Lumsachram 2-0.
Finally, in Group D, Druma Sandruma handed Resu Conventus a 5-0 defeat to go through at the top in Ampati, while A’tong Matgrik pipped Ampati SC 1-0.
Despite the semifinalists being finalised, there is still the matter of the final group stage games that will take place tomorrow, where even those clubs that have not made it to the last-four will want to end the tournament on a high note.
