Shillong, May 2: Damaitphang Lyngdoh, a midfielder from Meghalaya, has scored nine goals in all for Bengaluru FC in the zonal round of the Junior League (formerly U-15 Youth League), which concluded today.
His tally of nine goals puts Lyngdoh joint-sixth among scorers in this year’s competition nationwide. Bengaluru qualified for the main round after topping their group with eight consecutive victories.
Lyngdoh was in the starting line-up in all eight matches and played for over 700 minutes. Fellow Meghalayan team mate Lastborn Mawphniang, a defender, was on the field for every minute of every game and scored six goals.
Lyngdoh has produced two hat-tricks – the first in the most one-sided fixture when Bengaluru defeated Sporthood FC 20-0 and then more recently against Bangalore Youth Football League when he scored three of his club’s four goals. Mawphniang also scored a hat-trick of his own, which came in the 12-0 drubbing of Ananthapur Sports Academy.
Mawphniang and Lyngdoh had represented Meghalaya in the sub-junior nationals before they joined Bengaluru in 2017.
