Shillong, Jun 25: Shillong will host the 2nd Boxing Federation of India Elite Men’s East Zone Boxing Championship at U Tirot Sing Indoor Stadium from 3rd to 4th July, with seven state boxers in the fray.

The championship is being organised by New Era Sports, Socio and Cultural Club in collaboration with the Meghalaya Boxing Association. 

The BFI has divided the country into eight zones, with Meghalaya, West Bengal, Assam and Sikkim in the East Zone. 

The main aim to hold this championship is to give an opportunity to all the boxers from all the four states to showcase their talent and skill.

Boxers from this tournament will be selected to represent the East Zone team for the Inter-Zonal National Boxing Championship to be held later this year. 

Each fight will be of three rounds (three minutes each). There are seven weight categories in all – 46-49kg (light fly), 52kg (fly), 56kg (bantam), 60kg (light), 64kg (light welter), 69kg (welter) and 75kg (middle). 

Meghalaya will be represented in each category. The state boxers (pictured front row right to left) are Siewdorlang Syiemiong (light fly), Shanborlang Marbaniang (fly), Pynskhem L Nonglait (bantam), Baiamutlang Sungoh (light), Lurshai Nongkhlaw (light welter), Arthur Cornelli Khongioh (welter) and Erick Khongsit (middle). 

The other three states have also confirmed fighters for all weight categories.
