Shillong, Oct 5: Nongrim Hills celebrated their first victory of the Shillong Premier League by defeating Nangkiew Irat 2-1 at the JN Stadium here today.
Batifar Swer scored in the 13th minute for Nongrim, but Damehun Syih equalised five minutes later. Swer turned provider in the second half with Nongrim captain Nikelson Bina restoring his team’s lead.
Nongrim’s opener came via a corner kick taken by Bina. The ball came in and was chested away by a defender on the goal line, but Swer leapt up and headed in the rebound.
Nangkiew didn’t have to wait long for the equaliser, with Pynche Tyngkan feeding a nice ball forward for Syih, who put out an outstretched boot from outside the box that sent the ball past the advancing goalkeeper Jessly Sungoh.
Sungoh, however, had a good game, denying Nangkiew a couple of times in the match and Bina and Swer then reversed roles in the 54th minute when Nongrim retook the lead.
Swer went up the right and delivered a stinging cross that hit the upright and then goalkeeper Monlang Shylla’s boot. The ball then hung tantalisingly in front of goal and Bina then helped it over the line.
On Monday Langsning are scheduled to take on Rangdajied United at 3PM.
