Shillong, Apr 3: Shillong Cricket Association became champions of the Meghalaya Cricket Association’s U-14 Inter District Tournament 2021 with a 60-run victory in the final against North Garo Hills District Cricket Association in Nongpoh today.
NGH won the toss at the Ri-Bhoi Cricket Ground and made their opponents bat first. A run-a-ball 26 by Rudra Singh Rathore and 23 by Aditya Singh saw SCA make 121/5 in their allotted 20 overs. Dakchakra R Marak claimed 1/16 in four overs.
Marak then scored an impressive 37 in the chase but SCA’s bowling was just too strong and NGH were dismissed for 61 in 17 overs. Gaurav Jyoti Thakuria scalped 4/6 in a fantastic spell of bowling while player-of-the-match Ashish Kumar Lohar took 3/14.
The chief guest on the day was Jirang MLA Sosthenes Sohtun. Other dignitaries included Nongkhrah Rangbah Shnong Celestine Syngkli, Convenor of the BCCI Task Force Naba Bhattacharjee, MCA Vice-President Dipul Ryntathiang, MCA Honorary Secretary Gideon Kharkongor, MCA Treasurer Dhrubajyoti Thakuria, MCA Tournament Committee Chairman Armstrong Sangma, Ri-Bhoi District Cricket Association President Rayonald Kharkamni, East Khasi Hills Cricket Association President Dister Marbaniang and other senior members of the district associations.
At the prize distribution ceremony, Marak was named Best Batsman, Thakuria Best Bowler and NGH’s Tengrang D Marak Best Wicketkeeper. There were also awards for Amit Kr Rai of East Khasi Hills Cricket Association as the youngest player in the tournament and Adrian Rymbai of Ri-Bhoi District Cricket Association as the Most Promising Player.
