Shillong, Feb 16: Lawsohtun SC inflicted the first defeat of the season on Nongrim Hills in the First Division of the Shillong Sports Association at First Ground, Polo, here today. Lawsohtun won the contest 2-1.
Peter Lyngdoh (34′) gave the lead to Lawsohtun but Glennys Lynrah (42′) equalised before half time. The winning goal was then scored in the 74th minute by Phyrnai Langstieh.
Leaders Nongrim Hills had won all four of their previous matches and had already secured promotion to next season’s Shillong Premier League, so the loss won’t hurt them much. Lawsohtun, meanwhile, moved up to fourth in the standings.
This result also means that Mawkhar SC and Umphyrnai SC will finish in the relegation zone no matter the result in their respective last fixtures.
Mawkhar have no way of overhauling Malki’s tally of 6 points. Umphyrnai can at least equal Malki but the latter have head-to-head advantage.
