Shillong, Sep 5: Langsning FC have all but confirmed that they will not participate in this season’s Shillong Premier League but will return to the Shillong Sports Association football pyramid next season.

A source within the club told TSR today that the decision has been made in full knowledge that they will be relegated as a result of skipping the SPL. We had reported yesterday how Langsning were poised to drop the major bombshell that it was to pull out of the upcoming SPL season.

According to SSA rules (as TSR understands them), a club that fails to participate in any one season is relegated to the very bottom of the SSA structure, i.e. the U-20 Fourth Division.

This could be part of a pivot for Langsning to become a more youth-oriented club, with less focus on the senior team, but that is only speculation.

The club management convened an emergent meeting today morning and, following that, the source informed that the Rapsang family, which has supported the club financially for years, will continue to do so; it has therefore not pulled the plug, as TSR had suggested yesterday.

Langsning are yet to formally inform the SSA of its intentions. It will probably do so by the end of this week when more details are likely to be forthcoming.
