Shillong, Sep 29: The first 20 fixtures of the Shillong Sports Association’s First Division 2024 were released by the SSA yesterday, with the first two matches to be held on 5th October.
There are 10 teams in contention who will play each other once. There are no knockouts – whichever team at the top of the standings at the end of the round robin stage will be crowned champions.
All the matches will take place at First Ground, Polo, here.
Four clubs were promoted from 2023’s Second Division – champions Pohkseh SCC, runners-up Mawtawar SC and losing semifinalists Nongrah SC and Sohryngkham SC.
In addition, Nongkseh SCC won the auction to fill the vacant First Division spot, so they are the 10th team in the list. Had they not gone down the auction route, Nongkseh would’ve played in the Second Division this season.
The 2023 First Division champions were Laitkor SC, with Nongrim Hills SC the runners-up. These two sides have been promoted to the upcoming Shillong Premier League 2024.
The SSA suspended relegation for 2023, so no clubs have dropped down from the SPL and neither have any teams been relegated to the Second Division; Mawkhar SC and Umphyrnai SC were the two lowest-ranked teams in the First Division 2023.
