Shillong, Feb 13: Lion King CC and Mawten SC emerged victorious yesterday to advance to the semifinals of the 5th Mawten T20 Cricket Tournament 2025, defeating their opponents by 48 runs and five wickets respectively.
Nongstoin United CC and Royal Challengers Mawsynram CC are the other two teams to have made it to the semis.
Lion King elected to bat and scored 152/8 in 20 overs against Lawsohtun SC in the first match. Benny Lyngdoh top-scored with 56 and Rishotskhem Lyngdoh added 23 to the cause. Hilar Thabah bagged two wickets for Lawsohtun.
In reply, Lawsohtun were restricted to 104/8 in 20 overs, with Benny claiming three wickets for a top all-round performance and he was named Player of the Match. Ranjit Roy managed 21 with the bat for the losing side.
Later, Braveheart CC won the toss and batted first but could only manage 109 all out in 19.5 overs. Anish Charak and Kishan Lyngdoh of Mawten SC took four and two wickets respectively, while Braveheart’s Erich M Lyngdoh managed 24 with the bat.
In reply, Mawten faced a collapse at the start of their innings but recovered thanks to the efforts of Kevin (24 runs) and Kitborlin Lyngdoh (28). Erich took three wickets for Braveheart but it wasn’t enough to stop Mawten from reaching the target. Kitborlin Lyngdoh’s patient innings earned him the Player of the Match award.
