Shillong, Mar 22: Nongmensong CC and Sputnik CC won by massive margins in the 1st Late PA Sangma Memorial T20 Tournament, organised by the Shillong Cricket Association, here today.
While Nongmensong beat Shillong Sixers by 10 wickets in Group B, Sputnik defeated Capital Stars by eight wickets in Group A.
Both winners won the toss and chose to field first.
In Nongmensong’s case, they were able to restrict Shillong Sixers to 86/8 in a reduced 17 overs. Suraj Chettri put up the most fight with 32 from 40 balls, while Himan C Phukan took 3/13 in 3 overs and PM Santhosh 2/11 in 3.
The opening pair of Arpit Bhatewara (60* from 30 deliveries) and Kush Agarwal (17* from 16) saw Nongmensong to 89 without loss in just 7.4 overs to claim a crushing victory. For his blistering knock, Arpit was declared Player of the Match.
In the other match, Swarajeet Das was Sputnik’s hero with bat and ball.
With the ball first, he took 3/29 in 4 overs as Capital Stars made 162/7 in 20 overs. Bikash Singh smacked 78 from 43 balls for the top score.
While competitive on paper, Sputnik comfortably knocked off the required runs in 15.4 overs for the loss of just two wickets. For this they had Swarajeet to thank, as he made 100 not out in just 52 deliveries. Unsurprisingly, he was named Player of the Match.
