Shillong, Aug 25: East Zone defeated North East Zone by a whopping innings and 210 runs on the third day of their Duleep Trophy match in Bengaluru today.
There were three Meghalayans in the playing XI – Kishan Lyngdoh, Akash K Choudhary and Arpit Bhatewara.
Playing against an East Zone team with the likes of the experienced Mohammed Shami and up and coming Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was always going to be a challenge and so it proved. Batting first, East Zone made 467 all out and then bowled NE Zone twice for 111 and 146.
In the one innings in which he got to bowl, Akash, who opened the bowling for NE Zone, took 3/102 in 26 overs. Arpit, who kept wicket, bagged one catch.
In the batting department, Arpit made 32 in his first innings, which comprised four fours, at the top of the order. Kishan, meanwhile, was out for 9 in the first innings but made 25 in the second. Akash also struck a handy 27 coming in at No. 10.
