Shillong, Oct 25: The honorary secretary of the Meghalaya Cricket Association, Rayonald Kharkamni, has been appointed as the convener for the North East Zone in the Senior Women T20 Inter Zonal BCCI Tournament 2026-27, which will be held in Assam.

The North East zone comprises Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Sikkim.

Kharkamni has accordingly convened a meeting for the first week of November in Guwahati to select the team that will represent the North East. Mamon Majumdar, Member of the IPL Governing Council, will also be present during the selection process of the zonal team.

All the six states have been requested to recommend the names of their selectors by 30 October for inclusion in the zonal selection committee. The committee will arrive at a 15-member squad.

The zonal convener will also nominate the team support staff – coach, assistant coach, physio, trainer, performance analyst, masseuse and manager.

The convener was nominated by the member states in the zone. Kharkamni’s nomination is significant given that he is currently still embroiled in a tussle with MCA President James PK Sangma MP, who had unilaterally decided to suspend him earlier in the year. However, that decision was challenged not just by Kharkamni but the other members of the MCA’s Apex Council. The matter remains pending in the High Court of Meghalaya.
