Shillong, Aug 12: Meghalaya Police moved to the top of the First Division standings after a convincing 4-1 victory over Imson at the JN Stadium here today.
Bisharlang Kharumnuid put the police into the lead with an absolute stunner by scoring from an incredibly tight angle outside the box in the 27th minute. If intentional it was brilliant and if not it was very fortuitous.
MLP goalkeeper Kenio Lyngkhoi then had to make a couple of smart saves to deny Imson, but there was no denying Meban Shylla, who equalised in the 36th minute.
That wasn’t the last goal in the first half, though, with a defensive lapse leading to there being three cops attacking with just one Imson defender back and Everywell Khongjee (42′) powered the ball into the back of the net.
The second half began under darkening skies and it took a little while before the players seemed to find their groove again, but Niwan-o Gatphoh increased MLP’s lead in the 67th by sprinting past his marker with a speed that belied his years, before Khongjee bagged his second in the 81st minute.
Tomorrow, Lawsohtun are scheduled to face Nongkrem at 3:15PM.
