Shillong, Nov 26: Dateibankynmaw Marwein and Mudang Omo won the women’s and men’s ‘Milk Marathon’ events here today.
Dubbed a marathon, the race was actually of a distance of 10km and began at Polo Ground and ended at State Central Library from 7:30AM. It was organised by the Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Department and Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs on the occasion of National Milk Day.
Marwein ran her race in 44 minutes, 42 seconds, more than a minute and a half faster than second-placed Lyntijingkyrmen Kharjahrin (46:14), while Jidalin Tympuin came third (47:23).
It was a lot closer in the men’s event, with Omo crossing the line in a time of 34:24, closely followed by Saroj Mangar (34:29). Kresstarjune Pathaw finished third.
The winners were awarded Rs 30,000 each, with Rs 20,000 going to the second-placed finishers and Rs 15,000 going to those who finished third.
