Shillong, Dec 7: Gujarat put on a remarkable performance with bat and ball to beat Meghalaya by an innings and 316 runs, all in a single day’s play of the U-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy in Vadodara yesterday.
Meghalaya won the toss and chose to field but that decision sat well for Gujarat, who proceeded to score at more than 8 runs an over to post 403/7 in 48.3 overs. Meghalaya were then dismissed twice, for 37 and 50, for the multi-day match to be wrapped up in a single day.
Jarrett M Wanniang produced Meghalaya’s best figures, taking 3/84 while fellow opening bowler Angkit Tamang claimed 2/86. Benedict Jones Makdoh (1/51) and Gaurav Jyoti Thakuria (1/88), meanwhile, claimed a wicket each.
Rudra Singh Rathore made a decent start at the top of the order, hitting 18, but Meghalaya were skittled for 37 and made to follow-on. The second innings only saw Kishlay Vishlux (14) and Bishes Chettri (10) get into double figures.
The Meghalaya boys will now have to try and put this result behind them as they prepare to face Chhattisgarh from 11th December.
