Shillong, Jan 13: A somewhat fortuitous goal in the 88th minute gave Nongrim Hills SC a 1-0 victory over Umphyrnai SC in the Shillong Sports Association’s First Division at First Ground, Polo, here today.
The goal was credited to Alem Khongwir (pictured centre), whose shot struck the opposition goalkeeper, rebounded back onto Alem and then crossed the goal line.
He could have had a second goal soon after but this time he sent Glennys Lynrah’s cross straight to the keeper.
Earlier in the second half, Umphyrnai had a huge shout for handball in the box but the referee saw no infraction. Umphyrnai accounted for themselves very well, earning several set-pieces but failing to convert.
The next match is scheduled for Tuesday between Mylliem SC and Laitkor SC at 2:15PM.
