Shillong, Jan 25: Nongrim Hills SC won their third match in a row and, with it, took provisional first place in the points table of the Shillong Sports Association’s First Division 2023 with a 4-1 result against Mylliem SC at First Ground here today.
Glennys Lynrah put Nongrim Hills 2-0 up by the end of the first half with goals in the 32nd and 45th minutes.
Fans then had to wait right until the end of the match for three more, the first being a goal by Mylliem’s Janhameshwa Marngar (82′) before Alem Khongwir (90′) and Justerwell Tham (90’+2) put the result beyond doubt.
Alem may have lost a little pace from his heyday and is now dropped a level to the First Division from the Shillong Premier League but has shown he still has what it takes; he has scored a goal in each of Nongrim Hills’ three matches all rather late in the day (88′ and 90’+4 in the other games).
Alem is the current top scorer of the league and Nongrim are leading the table with a full 9 points from three outings. For Mylliem this was their second match and, while it is now two defeats for them, they have at least scored their first goal through Janhameshwa.
The next match is scheduled for Saturday between Mawkhar SC and Laitkor SC at 2:15PM.
