Shillong, Jan 27: Meghalaya reached the semifinals of the Khelo India Games 2024’s men’s football event with a 2-1 victory over hosts Tamil Nadu in Chennai today.

The victory is Meghalaya’s third after they defeated Punjab two days ago and Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday and means that the boys, led by coach Jeffrey Warlarpih and manager Beneslaus Khyriem, have a perfect record in Group A.

Today’s scorers for Meghalaya were Deibormame Tongper and Mebanlamlynti Masharing.

Mebanlamlynti now has three goals after scoring twice against UP in the opener.

The semifinals will take place on Monday. Meghalaya had similarly successful runs in 2022 and 2023 but were beaten in the semis in both editions. They’ll want to put the past behind them as they enter the last-four stage once again.
