Shillong, Jul 12: Umiew Maw U Sam SC had to come from a goal down to beat Mawlyngngad SC 3-2 in Group B of the Shillong Sports Association’s U-20 Fourth Division 2024 at Third Ground, Polo here today.
The other game of the day was also in Group B and that saw Mawpdang SC and New Challenger SC play out a 1-1 draw.
Both goals in the draw came in the second half of the 70-minute match, with Mickey Marwein (57′) scoring first for Mawpdang before Shanbor Swer (65′) put a goal into his own net to give New Challenger the equaliser. That own goal happened to be the 100th goal of the Fourth Division this year.
Later, Edelbert Kharmalki (4′) helped Mawlyngngad draw first blood but Umiew Maw U Sam came storming back with goals from Aiboklang L Nongbri (12′) and Bilistar Sun (17′).
Banskhem Kharkongor (43′) brought Mawlyngngad on level terms once against only for Eller C Allya (70’+2) to bag the winner in stoppage time.
Umiew Maw U Sam now have a maximum 9 points and are guaranteed first place in the group and thus a place in the pre-quarterfinals.
