Shillong, Nov 26: Lerry Sangma (pictured left) took three wickets and then made 51 with the bat as Meghalaya lost to Chhattisgarh by 77 runs in their Vijay Hazare Trophy one day match in Jaipur yesterday.
Another bright spot was the performance of Jaskirat Singh Sachdeva (right), who hit 42 in only his second senior team appearance.
Meghalaya chose to field first after winning the toss and Chhattisgarh posted 290/7 in their allotted 50 overs. Lerry was the last of seven bowlers utilised and only bowled 4 overs but he was able to find success with them to claim 3/28, even a little expensively.
Akash Kumar Choudhury bagged 2/61 in 10 overs, Dippu Ch Sangma 1/49 in 10 and Rajesh Bishnoi 1/55 in 10.
Lerry had also had a positive T20 campaign in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, as he was almost always among the runs. Today, coming in at No. 7, Lerry struck two sixes and as many fours in his innings of 51 from 49 deliveries. Besides Jaskirat’s 42 from 46 (5x4s), Kishan Lyngdoh also made a handy 37 (4x4s) from 65 balls.
However, Meghalaya were still quite a way from the target as they were bowled out for 213.
The next opponents for Meghalaya will be Jharkhand and that match will take place on Monday.
