Shillong, Mar 2: A member of the Meghalaya Sport Climbing & Mountaineering Association has been nominated to attend the Basic Mountaineering Course at the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute in Darjeeling.
Ricky Rani, a resident of Lad Mawphlang, has been sponsored for this course by the Department of Sports & Youth Affairs. The training began today and will run until 28th March.
In a press release today, MeSCMA president Malviancy Shabong said Rani’s participation in the training will benefit the association in its effort to promote and encourage the youth of the state to take interest in adventure activities and learn rope access techniques, evacuation for search and rescue, etc.
Before attending such courses, trainees have to prepare themselves for at least four months with proper nutrition and physical exercise as mountaineering relies on a combination of physical, mental and psychological strength, as well as endurance and teamwork, she added.
