Shillong, Jan 17: Sohra United moved to the top of Group B in the U-16 Republic Cup here on Wednesday with a 2-0 victory over Upper Shillong. The other game saw Nongthymmai upset Little Star 1-0 in Group A.
Sohra’s consistent scorer Mebanshan Laloo started proceedings with a 12th minute goal before his team mate Goldieson Nongrud doubled the lead in the 54th minute.
With this victory Sohra moved to seven points from their full quota of four group matches. Upper Shillong and Langsning both have five points, with the latter still having a game to go.
In the earlier fixture Little Star were dealt their first defeat of the tournament, losing to Nongthymmai in a low-scoring contest.
Banskhemlang Nongdhar produced the only goal of the game in the 23rd minute, which sealed three valuable points for his side, taking Nongthymmai’s total to four from two fixtures and putting them in third place behind Little Star (seven points).
