Shillong, Jun 15: The line-up for Friday’s finals of the Chief Minister’s State Level U-12 Football Tournament 2023 was decided today after the conclusion of the semifinals at the SAI Centre here.
In the girls’ category, West Khasi Hills will face East Jaintia Hills in the title match, while West Jaintia Hills and Ri-Bhoi will vie for the boys’ trophy.
Today, the girls’ semifinals saw WKH blank East Khasi Hills 2-0 thanks to goals by Nazarine D Sangma (23′) and Ibatyngkai Nongsiej (38′). At the same time, EJH and South West Khasi Hills played out a 1-1 draw. Felinda Pajuh (35′) scored for EJH and Sharaihababet (42′) for SWKH. EJH then won the penalty shootout 2-1.
Later, in the boys’ semifinals, WJH defeated Eastern West Khasi Hills 2-1. Benedic War (4′) and Ibamonhi Suting (34′) scored for the winners on either side of Arki Mawlong’s (24′) goal for EWKH. Ri-Bhoi, meanwhile, required a tiebreaker to beat EKH, winning it 5-4, after regulation time ended 2-2. EKH had taken a two-goal lead via Bankyrshanlang Kharkongor (10′) and Arkimeai Kharkongor (19′) but Ri-Bhoi’s Shanborlang Khongjee (45′, 49′) scored a brace to bring his district back in the contest.
The girls’ final will take place at 9AM and that of the boys’ at 10:45AM.
