Shillong, Oct 23: PFR Academy secured promotion to next season’s Third Division after defeating Pomlakrai 4-3 on penalties in the first semifinal of the Shillong Sports Association’s Fourth Division at Polo Ground today.
The match saw both sides score within the first half but full time in the 70-minute game ended 1-1 and so did extra time, which necessitated a tiebreaker.
The result brought Pomlakrai’s season to a close; they had qualified for the semis with two wins and one draw in Group A. PFR had won both their games in the smaller Group C.
Promotion to the Third Division is reserved for the two teams that make it to the final. The second semifinal will be held on Monday at 2PM between Tynring and Mylliem Lum.
